The study of painting, architecture, music, and contemporary art, the learning of the main techniques of stage design, the countless experiences of experimentation with various companies of research and over ten years of collaboration with Ezio Frigerio, have formed the fundamental training background of Domenico Franchi letting him develop his very flexible concept of scenography. Throughout his work experience he has often designed and built his ideas using alternative or invented means. A practical knowledge of all aspects of the work has led him to consider usable any form and technique of visual expressions as long as it is functional to the concept of the staging: that's a broader view about scenography and costumes, more aligned with the contemporary forms of expression.
The basic approach that moves each of his creations is based on the idea that scenography and costumes are an active part in the definition of the profound meaning of the show as a whole, rather than having only a decorative use.
Domenico Franchi has worked in numerous theatrical productions, experimenting with different ways of working but always holding to the principle that creating a scenic space is an experience that requires a great willingness to dialogue and debate, something that makes art always surprising also for those who practice it.
There have been many lucky meetings with directors, composers, choreographers, actors, dancers and artists of all disciplines; since 1992 he has worked in over seventy productions and stagings.
